Board Election

March 2008

An election for the three Officers is scheduled for 2008. The AHA Corporation Bylaws proscribe that Officers are elected in even number years (2008) and Directors are elected in odd number years (2009).

The AHA President, Jay Craddock, appointed an Election Committee composed of Vice President Ken Moore; the Secretary-Treasurer, John Ruppel; association member at large, LTC Jim Rommelfanger: and Newsletter Editor Lynda Fawcett. The committee will be responsible for gathering nominations, distributing, collecting, and counting the ballots. The newly elected Officers will be announced at the Association's annual meeting, the Annual Old Timers Lunch, scheduled for Wednesday, March 26, 2008, at the Castro Valley Loyal Order of Moose Hall, 20835 Rutledge Road, Castro Valley, CA 94546.

All AHA members in good standing may vote for Officers. Ballots have been included in your newsletter if you paid your 2007 membership dues. If your last year’s dues were not paid, you are not considered to be in good standing and are not eligible to vote. There are three names on the ballot: Col John L. Ruppel, President; Lt Col Steven L. James, Vice President; and Lt Col David P. Russell, Secretary-Treasurer. There is no write-in provision. Please vote for three nominees. The nominees with the highest number of votes will be declared Directors, and will be announced and begin their two-year term at the Old Timers' Luncheon

The self-addressed stamped ballot should be postmarked by March 17, 2008, and mailed to:
Ms. Lynda Taft-Fawcett
4732 Heatherbrae Circle
Sacramento, CA 95842-4328

Mark and mail your ballots today!

The Prez Sez

The President's Column
Lt Col Jesse Craddock (Ret.)

I want to take this opportunity as outgoing President to thank the Board Officers and Directors as well as the Association Members who have contributed during the last ten years to the Association’s success.
We have a well-established Scholarship Program, supported deploying Wing personnel, supported Airmen of the Year awards, helped fund the Softball Tournament, and have initiated a project to supply the Wing model aircraft representing the nine aircraft flown by the 129th Rescue Wing since inception. This Display will be located in the Headquarters Building foyer.

Congratulations to CCMSgt. Liliana Ramos and MSgt Gary Flossmann upon their retirement.
On a sadder note, this past year we lost two past Wing Commanders - Brigadier General Al Santos and Col Ed Lewis.

The annual Old-Timers Lunch will be held Wednesday, March 26, at the Castro Valley Moose Lodge. The Newsletter contains reservation and direction information.

The Board selected three Wing members to receive scholarships which will be presented during the annual luncheon. This year, one scholarship will be presented in the name of Brigadier General Albert Santos, and a second scholarship in the names of Col Ralph Nobriga and SMSgt Donald Delucchi. Two Association members funded these scholarships

Ken Moore has undertaken the development of a scrapbook that will contain pictures from summer camps, deployments, and other Wing activities. Additionally, any aircraft pictures would be welcome. The Association will arrange to have pictures copied and the original returned. You can mail pictures to Ken at: 41658 Covington Dr., Fremont, CA 94539-4651: or bring them to the Old-Timers Lunch.

This year will be a very important national election - one which will affect the future of our Country. We are still "at War," and the future leadership of the Country is vital. Think carefully and weigh all options before you vote.

Speaking of voting, the Newsletter contains the officer election ballot. The postcard has postage affixed, so please take a moment vote and then mail the ballot!

I have enjoyed my tenure as President, and the opportunity to make many new friends. Hopefully, I’ll still be able to contribute to the good of the 129th Rescue Wing.

Be sure to mail your ballots and get your lunch reservations in early!

Jay

WING HERITAGE AIRCRAFT MODEL DISPLAY

CCMSgt Ken Moore (Ret)

The Association is undertaking a heritage project to provide the 129TH Rescue Wing with models of Unit assigned aircraft. The models will be finished in the Wing paint scheme and markings. The Board is negotiating with a supplier to provide nine custom made models: C-46 Commando, SA-16 Albatross, U-6 Beaver, U-10 Courier, C-119G Flying Boxcar, HC-130P King Tanker, MC-130P Combat Shadow, HH-3E Jolly Green, and MH-60G Pave Hawk. The estimated cost per model is approximately $400. Association members are invited to contribute to the project and can designate a specific aircraft or the display case, as well as donate in the name of a Unit member. Additionally, the Board is exploring purchasing individual models for members. A donation from is provided below. The aircraft models will be

Money Talk

The Secretary – Treasurer’s Report
Col John L. Ruppel, Jr. (Ret.)

The current dues assessment provides the required funds to support the various programs and insure financial liquidity. The Board revised the Scholarship Program award policy limiting awards to the funds generated in any one business year. Additionally, the number of scholarships was decreased but the amount was increased to encourage more applications and insure an adequate reserve is maintained. If you have questions or comments, please contact me by email or at the Old Timers’ Luncheon. Your continued support is appreciated

  Are You Missing in Action?
Dead Letter Department

Have you moved recently - or not so recently? Do we have your correct mail and e-mail addresses & phone number? Please let us know when you move.

The newsletter is mailed out with a request for address correction. The post office does not forward the newsletter to you. They return it to us - and charge us 41¢. Then we update your file, put your newsletter in an envelope, put a 41¢ stamp on the packet, and mail it out to you. Total additional cost to the association is nearly $1.00 per returned newsletter.

Please take a moment to remember the 129th AHA when you notify your correspondents of your new address. A member information change form is included in every issue.
